Three Reasons |
1) People are afraid that they are going to have to change. They imagine themselves as having to become just like every other "Christian", some of whom are not very attractive, and wonder if they will lose all identity. Jesus accepts you as YOU are, where you are. You may feel a need to change and grow after you accept him, or you may not. Pray and ask, then listen and believe he will speak to your heart. 2) People are afraid of what other people will think. They imagine that all their friends and family and work mates and loved ones will think they are crazy. They fear the ridicule and the pain of rejection. This may be true in some cases, yet you will find as many friends and loved ones as you lose. And many times it simply takes awhile for people to understand. Many times people will admit later on the they would like to accept Jesus to. Be Bold! If you are in a situation where exposing your belief in Jesus would be dangerous to your welfare be wise and prudent and pray well first. Jesus would have no harm come to his loved ones. 3) People just can't come to believe in something that makes no sense to them, something that they can not see with their eyes, nor touch with their hands, nor quantify in some other way. Especially if people are very educated or successful in worldly things, but not spiritual things. It is difficult or impossible for people to believe in something they can't see or totally understand. Some times people spend their time trying to find all the things they don't understand, or that which seems far fetched to their natural senses, about God and the Bible. All the God and Jesus and Holy Sprit stuff in the Bible. Once many people believed the earth was flat because they could not see beyond the horizon at sea. True wisdom lies in the ability to believe the truth you see and understand, and to believe the truths you do not. The Bible, the Word of God, contains the truth if you are fearless enough to study it and believe it, in faith, regardless if you understand it or not.
